Chris Stapleton isn’t a new name in the country music world, you’ve heard his hit songs on the radio for years; they just weren’t being sung by him. Luke Bryan’s emotional “Drink A Beer”, George Strait’s “Love’s Gonna Make It Alright”, even Thomas Rhett’s current hit “Crash and Burn” were all written by Chris Stapleton. Even though he’s been writing hit songs for years, it wasn’t until May of this year that Chris released an album of his own. The much anticipated, Traveller, has been garnering praise and applause from the country music world and is nominated for a CMA Award for Album of the Year! So, in preparation for the CMA Awards airing on November 4th, here are a few fun facts about the CMA New Artist of the Year Nominee.

He’s Written Songs For Multiple Genres

It’s not just Luke Bryan, Blake Shelton, and Miranda Lambert that are recording songs written by Chris Stapleton, he’s written songs recorded by Joss Stone and even Adele covered one of his songs on the deluxe edition of her album, 21. He’s also contributed song cuts to major motion pictures!

Before Going Solo He Was In Two Different Bands

Chris Stapleton was the lead singer of the Grammy Nominated blue grass group, The Steeldrivers until 2010 when he started the rock band, The Jompson Brothers. Proof of just how multi-talented Chris Stapleton is, being able to excel in many different genres.

He Doesn’t Shy Away From The Heavy Topics

Chris Stapleton describes his album, Traveller, as “a pretty grown up record, meant for grown ups to sit around and listen to”. The album is full of songs that reflect real life and the struggles that are part of it. Especially, “Daddy Doesn’t Pray Anymore”. Give it a listen and you’ll have goose bumps when you hear the raw emotion in Chris Stapleton’s voice.
