Q 1: We as well as many fans of yours have been keeping on eye out on your social media pages to see what new music you have to offer in your “Music Monday” series.  The music sounds great, and we’re wondering when or if you’ll be releasing a solo album anytime soon?

If by “soon” you mean this year? Absolutely! If by “soon” you mean this WEEK, Music Monday will have to do until the first songs hit the radio.

Q 2: What can fans expect from your solo shows?  Will all of the music be new, or will you be including some Sugarland hits as well?

The name of the tour is Put Your Soul In It, and I plan to live up to that! There will be new songs, Sugarland songs, and Billy Pilgrim songs, all mixed together. I love to connect the last 20 years of my career to help fans understand where I’ve come from and where I’m going. Overall, you should expect a beautiful combination of songs you know with songs you’re about to discover, and you should definitely prepare by listening through the Music Monday tracks on my website. I also plan to melt your face off with the kickass band I’ve assembled.

Q 3: How did you select your band, and are there any members from Sugarland, or an we may know of already?

There are some players you’ll recognize, like my brother Brandon and my longtime drummer Travis McNabb. There’s also a couple new faces in there. The biggest requirement to being in my band is you have to love getting lost in the performance. It helps me create a new version of these songs every time we play them. You also have to be good at melting faces.

Q 4: If there’s time, is there anywhere in Minnesota you’d like to visit while you’re in the area for your show?  Or maybe another time when you have a chance?

I gotta say that every time I’m in Minnesota I wish I could catch a show at First Avenue in Minneapolis. Just standing outside that place and looking at the names on the wall gives me chills. I’m a huge fan of so many Minnesota acts, from Prince to the Hold Steady to the Replacements. You guys have an amazing musical tradition in your state!

Q 5: While on the road, does your family travel along, or do you get back to the home life every chance you get?

The answer is B. I love playing in Atlanta because my kids get to hang out backstage. We just played our first Atlanta show of the year and I was lucky to be joined by my friend Puddles Pity Party, who is a 7-foot tall clown. You should Google him if you don’t already know the brilliance of Puddles. But needless to say my kids were in awe. We’re having a lot of fun right now, in case you can’t tell!

Q 6: Which artist(s) or songwriters have inspired you to do what you do today?

From my hometown in Tennessee, Dolly Parton. From your home state of Minnesota, Prince aka His Purple Badness, and Paul Westerberg. You can say I’m a combination of Minnesota and the mountains.

Q 7: If you weren’t doing what you do today, what could you see yourself doing?

My favorite job is being a dad. I would never give that up. If I wasn’t playing music I’d be doing something creative, high risk, and probably involving travel. It would also be something where I could smile a lot.

Q 8: What brought you and Jennifer to the conclusion you were going to venture out and give things as a shot as solo artists?

It was Jennifer’s idea. It was a natural pause, with her becoming a new mom. She said she would like to put out a solo record, and of course I said yes — I believe saying yes is a big part of any artistic journey. And when I was asked to start playing solo shows and release some solo music, I said yes to that, too.

Q 9: What does the future hold for Sugarland?

We love making music together and we can’t wait to make more!

Q 10: Being the great grandson of A.J. Bush, founder of Bush Brothers and Company (Bush’s Baked Beans) we must ask…”Do you know the secret family recipe? 🙂

You know, my family sold that cannery when I was 12 years old. But actually, the recipe exists. It’s on a 3×5 card at my brother’s house. He lives in an undisclosed location. That’s all I can say.

We’d like to thank Kristian again for his time answering our questions!  Be sure to check out details and sign up to win tickets for his upcoming show at Grand Casino (Mille Lacs) on April 11, 2014 by clicking here.
