SuzyBogguss201520 years ago Suzy Bogguss was one of country music’s rising stars. Today she is one of its enduring treasures. With a string of hit singles, numerous awards, and acclaim from fans, critics, and peers, Bogguss is an artist truly in control of her own destiny.

Her strong, supple voice and straightforward style were a clarion call for country fans looking for music with meaning. Songs like “Aces,” “Drive South,” “Someday Soon,” “Outbound Plane” and “Letting Go” soon took her to the top of the country music charts. Along the way she won raves from critics and her peers in all genres. She won the Country Music Association’s Horizon Awardin 1992 and Album of the Year Award in 1994, ASCAP country and pop awards for her songwriting, and in 2005 a Grammy Award for her contribution to the Best Folk Album, Beautiful Dreamer, the Songs of Stephen Foster.

Over the years of her adventuresome career, Bogguss has produced some fruitful collaborations.  She teamed with the late, great Chet Atkins onSimpatico, an album which received near universal praise, and with Ray Benson of Asleep At The Wheel on Swing, an album full of swing tunes soaked in jazz. As an artist that has always been difficult to categorize, Bogguss hasn’t been bothered by the fact that her records are showing up on the jazz charts now. She just continues to do what she has always done: follow her muse.

Her most recent effort, Lucky, out in February 2014, is her fifth self-released title; funded entirely by her Kickstarter campaign, and largely by popular demand, it is a collection of her takes on the songs of the great Merle Haggard. In her own words, “this is not a tribute album… I wanted to make a new Suzy Bogguss album (excuse the third person) with the best country songs I could find — and this is it!”

With all of that said, Suzy is making her way to Minneapolis, MN to play not one but two shows at The Dakota Jazz Club & Restaurant!
